Achieving sustainable, ethical and efficient food systems in support of human health is among the greatest challenges facing the global community. SDG 2 highlights the multi-dimensional nature of food and nutrition security, including issues of resilience, nutrient content and food safety.

We aim for impact by working towards food systems transformation that will support the right of everyone to safe, fair, accessibly priced nutritious food. We seek to enhance food and nutrition security, reduce hunger and malnutrition, and lower the health burden and cost arising from unsafe, low-quality food and foodborne disease. We are committed to sustainability, seeking food systems which do not come at a cost to human livelihoods, animal health and welfare, or ecosystem services.

Specific areas include improved diets and nutritional status in high, low- and middle-income countries; the support of nutritionally vulnerable groups, addressing both undernutrition (stunting, wasting and micronutrient deficiencies) and overnutrition (overweight, obesity and non-communicable diseases); collaboration with stakeholders to create more resilient food systems; reduction of food borne diseases, increased food safety and control of animal diseases in markets of low- and middle-income countries, and influencing policy toward more integrated approaches.
